What it takes to own an APBT in the New Century

My goal as an upcoming breeder. I am using more than gut feelings and pedigrees to develop my line. Genetics and research of the pedigress will devolp a better A.P.B.T. You will never see a bully style blue or any bully at this yard. If you look to the old days of Colby, Tudor, and others dogs do you see the same pitbulls of today. NO! My research of the breed stems from every resource possible. I want to devolp the image of the A.P.B.T. to be the dog of the late 1800's and 1900's. Truly there is no place for a pit dog in today's society but APBT are so versatile. They are way more than just some fighting dog. A well respected family companion. I understand these dogs were bred to fight for hundreds of years ago and they did just that fight. But when the brutal, blood and inhumane fights were over the same dogs sleep with kids in their bedrooms. Played fetch, get to sleep at the foot of the bed, get their bellies rubbed and live the life of a normal dog. When you think of that, because a dog had been fought in a pit it couldn't be around humans anymore. Exactlly the opposite the men of the old days were men they didn't do anything like torture to get the dogs to fight. They respected the dogs and the dogs respected them. I am not supporting fighting but you must understand the old ways in order to be a responsible owner in today's standards. Would you want to be in a pit with two dogs that might bite you or the other people in there? There might be 3 to 4 people in pit when the dogs did their business. So no A.P.B.T. are not human aggressive unless they are taught to be or not socialized correctly. APBT are genetically programmed not to be human aggressive through selective breeding processes. Yes certain dogs are bred to be match dogs, not all APBT are on level ground when it comes to being in the pit. But the same as anything in today's society, the APBT has been taken advantage of due to their extreme loyalty to their masters. The same thing has happened to other breeds in the wrong hands as well. The Akitas of the 70's. The German Shepard of the 80's. The Rott of the 90's. So make sure to socialize your A.P.B.T. so others can enjoy the breed hundreds of years from now. APBT have many jobs in life besides fighting. Drug sniffing, rescue work in locating lost persons, cattle dogs, therapy work and even eye seeing dogs for the blind. We will lose our breed if don't protect it so if you are thinking about an APBT please make sure you have the time to properly raise the dog. Most won't devote the time or heart into a dog so why own one? I don't have the time but I make it. While my family is sleep at 5 am, I am working my dogs. You might catch me at 11pm working on the kennels, giving baths, or hand walking . I don't sleep for the love of this breed. I work 60 + hours a week and I manage to be a husband, father and loyal pitbull owner everyday. You can be sick and almost dead but you must get your butt up and do your dogs and family too. It is American to work your ass off and sleep when you die that is what our fore fathers did to make this country what it is. So if you are lazy and you want a dog who sleeps around the APBT is not for you. Don't get a dog because it is cute or think it will be fun it's not always. You know how many times I come in the door and my wife says, "You have a mess to clean up from your dogs!" If you want to clean up a mess every so often because APBT got into it, get a APBT. If you like to walk miles on top of miles everyday, get a APBT. If you like to change peoples mind about the APBT and don't mind rude negative comments, get a APBT. If you like to get rushed as soon as you walk in door at night from work with a wagging tail and kisses, get a APBT. If you want a dog that will take the abuse of a child pulling it's ears and tail with no problems, get a APBT. If you want a real dog, get a SHOW ME REAL PIT!!! You don't get all these things by sitting the dog in the backyard. It is a living breathing animal who depends on you to feed it, walk it, groom it and most important LOVE IT ! If you are lazy and irresponsible don't buy a dog, get goldfish!!!!!!!!!!!!!
